Can i ask a daft question. Does this look right? its like it has a layer of glass covering the chip. Shouldn't it be exposed like on the sammy? less glass more light etc

THAT IS A MODERS DREAM!!! First you will require a hacksaw.................. but seriously I can see why Rock is using them. If it looks like glass at the front its probably just a dust cover IR filters are slightly coloured.

I think we should start another thread, ''How small can you go'' I bet you could cut it in half, then it would truly be a micro

I'll bet you could remove four of the wires as they are for the lens and that just leaves? I have to stop as this is turning to a mod thread Thanks for the photos Chris brilliant info!

Yes, you are correct Chris, you cannot cool the plastic chips in these little cameras. Fans are OK, but he is Peltier cooling them which will destroy the chip after a few uses.

Dont go chopping it up..making it smaller = more heat more hot pixels ..tiny peltier and fan mod is the must ...davy...

Yes went for the free option Chris so no idea when it will come. I think the mod will be a 10 meter cat 5 lead and when the camera is split add a plate to the back of the front end with a fan. Well something along those lines...

Another advantage of having a separation plate behind the sensor is as an RF barrier. That's why I fitted one to my Samsung. As a cold finger for the cooling and it is a good RF barrier. RF signal from the board also affects the sensor, not just heat.

Good point Ken! I have also wondered with all cameras what effect a small heatsink on the processor would have if any? The last time I measured the processor was the hottest chip on the board.

Yeah Chris, you could probably fit a small heat sink onto the processor, but then that heat has to go somewhere, so you would need a small fan to blow it away from the sensors direction and out the back of the camera. The barrier stops most of the heat getting to the sensor, and blocks RF signal, and can be used as a coldfinger for a peltier attached to it (not ON the sensor).
