Live views were...pretty poor again lol Tried some DSO's after I got bored of poor views on Mars. Heres M82 and M13. I tried M51 but views were poor! Was getting cloudy / hazy by then tho.

Another good show last night Chris, have you tried the pre processing in the software,
considering it was doing 57 sec exposure that's excellent, remember some months back when we did that test with the standard cctv camera's with the cap on at 10 sec's exposure and all the hot pixels, you should try it with this camera and see what the results are, better still start low and ramp it up till you start getting hot/warm pixels and see whats the exposure is when they start to show.

Cheers lads. Carl I think I seen some pics of someone doing it... didn't look very attractive tho lol the cooler thing was like 5 times the size of the camera! John I had a quick play about with the pre processing options in firecapture... didn't seem very good to be honest. The stacking feature was a let down. It must be stacking as 'Sum' and there is no 'average' so it just blows out the image.
I will have a play about with it. It has a dark frame removal tool will see how it looks when that's used.

Hey guys just thought I would post some footage from this cam. Seeing wasn't great...moon was very low and had thin cloud covering pretty much the full sky. When watching make sure you select highest resolution and go full screen It gives a good idea of what I was seeing on my side. And also the dynamic range of the camera (nothing special).

Chris, is the colour switchable to B&W on these camera's so you can get rid of the colour tint or do you have to adjust the white balance?
and did you sort out the low FPS you where getting the other night?

Hey john yes as default debayer is turned off. I just thought it looked a bit more natural with colour on. Yes mate I had a good play about with it! Didn't appear to be hardware related as I had loads of space etc on hard drive. What I did find tho... This camera can be very touchy! Adjusting gain, exposure, and resolutions can produce mad results! Example... Gain set to 40... Picture is perfect... Adjust to 41 and it goes mad giving what looks like brutal interference or something... Fps drops randomly...42 even worse... 43 back to perfect... It's mental lol! Firecapture doesn't seem the most stable software either! Crashes on my win 8 machine a lot. More practice is needed! So far tho i think it's fair to say it's an improvement over the Sammy and MCX for planets and the moon. So I'm happy!

Chris, I can't help but think the image is soft. Have you checked the collimation of your OTA lately?

Chris, I can't help but think the image is soft. Have you checked the collimation of your OTA lately? Hemmi It always does mate! I have never been able to get super sharp focus... It really does annoy me lol. I just bought a JMI electric focuser off astrobuysell so I can focus remotely hopefully will help a bit. Might be junk tho...it was super cheap and had no details on the ad...took a punt...will be here tomorrow Haha regarding collimation... eh...no... never! Will start another thread about that.

Personally by the looks of the video, it appears to be collimation. I have the same issue with my VRC, i just cant get sharp images to save my life. Collimation on slow scopes must be perfect with these small sensors we use. My Dob produces the sharpest moon images I have ever seen, but then again its easy to collimate and forgiving. Get that thing collimated properly and you will think your in your own personal satellite orbiting the moon! Hemmi
