Last night I had several Frame Freezing events. Much worse than normal (I know another OSX issue). As it was cloudy I decided to investigate. I am using an "I Grabber" frame Grabber with a Mac Mini, OSX (latest) 2.3 GHz I5 CPU, 8 Gig memory. I was watching the Histogram for the Freeze Issue" (CPC 11, Hyperstar installed @f2, 5 Sec Exposure, AGC 2).
The crash report stated CPU usage excessive (over 50% for an app, but total CPU usage was less than 30% for all apps running (Safari Browser, Sky Safari, Milo, Cam twist...). Who would ever guess that if the total of all apps is 30% cpu time and 1 app is 50% of the 30% total CPU usage (15%) it would freeze the app.....
Long story short...If I limited the frame rate on Milo to 1 frame per second the CPU usage was about 50% or lower for the app and no frame freeze happened. Will continue to look at, but I believe the "I Grabber" / OSX is at fault. I did send the info to Bill last night.
I will be looking for and testing other Frame Grabbers for Mac/OSX in the future and watch the CPU usage closely as this seems to be an OSX issue with the I Grabber.
Just Info for the group and looking for any Mac/OSX Frame Grabber's to test.
Thanks Patrick

ohhhhh this is getting good, Rebooted Mac and CPU usage is down to 8% for Milo (normal) and a strange message on the Console: "5/28/14 1:54:15.209 PM Console[468]: setPresentationOptions called with NSApplicationPresentationFullScreen when there is no visible fullscreen window; this call will be ignored."

Pat I don't know anything about mac pc, but have you tried to use another software besides Miloslick? and see if it does the same.
or try it again but with all the other apps shut down, and if it runs ok with just milo working fire up another app and so on till you get the same problem. just a way of finding which app causes the problem. I did read that safari browser can cause a problem

I have been trying almost every combination of OSX SW, Browsers, Cam Twist, Many Cam...with NSN and Milo. The best combo for me on a MAC (not parallels or Boot Camp), latest OSX, latest Milo, Cam Twist 2.2 (older version) and Adobe Flash Encoder (latest) has worked very well for the past few months.
This "Frame Freezing" has been almost nonexistent till last night then all heck broke loose. I have a new Frame Grabber to try (Diamond 500 MAC) later this week to continue the study of what works best on a MAC as every iteration of SW (from anybody) can cause problems....
Thanks for the suggestions...Patrick

Hi Pat I bought www.ezcap.tv/usb-video-capture/ezcap116-capture-card it seems to work fine on my MAC. Just had to contact the company and say I wanted to use it on a MAC and they gave me this link www.ezcap.tv/mac/videoglide.pkg.zip for the software and a serial number. I only tested it for 10 mins but it worked fine! Used Miloslick software no problem as normal. Edit: I didn't attempt broadcasting tho! So not sure how well it would work using manycam and nsn

So Far I have tried an "Elgato" (will not show in Miloslick menu), a Grass Valley "ADVC 110", Fire Wire Direct to Mac FW Port, (it grey's out all video adjustments on Miloslick), an "I Grabber" (OSX 10.9.3 CPU time out and freezes current Frame, can correct by limiting Frame output Rate and Video Smoothing), and a Diamond VC500 MAC (now in the mail).
The latest OSX has a CPU usage limit for Apps (for saving power ?), looking to disable if possible...the hunt continues...
Thanks Patrick

Loaded VideoGlide from the earlier Post (1.5.5) as opposed to the web site download (1.5.1) and Video Glide is now showing on Mallincam Video Preferences..... NEXT UPDATE.... However getting SAME results with Milo, Time out for Excessive CPU Usage... same as the " I Grabber". Did not happen last week so I believe an OSX issue with latest Update...so no help with this issue for the moment...Patrick

Update June 2, 2014
Last night I was using the Diamond VC500MAC Video Grabber and noticed that I had 2 issues with the video being broadcast (NSN broadcast, last night).
1st was a wide light colored horizontal band moving thru the video picture at a slow rate (maybe 2 to 3 seconds)
2nd was a large number of Zig Zag lines in the vertical component of the video.
I was able to suppress both by using a high contrast value which would keep the background very dark. Both artifacts showed during the daytime, to a lesser degree, when I was testing the device. I stopped the broadcast early, thinking high clouds were causing the problem last night. i reinstalled the "I Grabber" video device and both issues were gone. This is the first time I have encountered artifacts coming from a video grabber.
Any thoughts or replies are welcome... Thanks Patrick

I have the same problem with my Jr pro Pat. With a cheap grabber I get light bands rolling down the screen despite 3 different sets of cables. I have bought a Dazzle grabber but haven't tested the pro with it yet. It does work flawlessly with the Samsungs though.

May not be much help but could be grabber electronics reacting with the computer electronics, power supplies are usually the no 1 culprit.

Would be interesting to eliminate or change each component ie
Power supply to camera
Grabber
Cable
Even computer
Interference sources are a tricky thing to find elimination is the only way.

The fact that both artifacts go away when I installed my "I Grabber" leads me to believe it is an issue with the VC500 MAC. Either defective unit or design issue. For now not worth the investment of time to sort out as the I Grabber works. Was actually working on the OSX issue I have with CPU usage, this was an effort to try to see if a different video device would help. It did not help the CPU issue and the artifacts were a secondary issue that I stumbled upon. Thanks Patrick

On last clue to the Mac CPU limit usage issue. The problem started after I got an UPDATE to OSX 10.9.3 on May 25, 2014. So I an thinking of backing up one version to 10.9.2.latest to verify. Patrick

Have a couple around, will give them a try, have not gone back to the older OSX yet. Have a Firewire VC (Grass Valley ADVC 110) I am trying tonight. Two separate issues I am working, a problem with the new OSX / CPU usage and Artifacts on the video capture device / output screen. Have verified the Horizontal wide band is coming from the Mallincam / LCD viewing screen, not the video capture device or computer. Will try a 12 volt battery and / or the Ferrite beads to correct today. Thanks Patrick
