So managed to give the latest version of AstroLive a decent test out last night. It wasnt the most successful test ive ever done lol. Noticed many issues. The main issues i seen were: 1: There is no auto white balance in astrolive. It meant the colour was way out! And it meant spending a hell of a lot of time trying to get the colour looking right. This was a deal breaker for me. Heres a pic of how it looks in astrolive then how it looks in miloslick to compare the default settings in both (histogram is off in milo). 2: The aligning when stacking... Totally messed up. No idea what im doing wrong but it clearly didnt work for me lol 3: Im not sure if its got something to do with the way i setup things(cameras to dvr then dvr to grabber). But when i open Astrolive and connect to my camera it wont show any video feed. Only when i open miloslick as well will Astrolive kick in and show the video picture. 4: Minor issue but annoying... When clicking on the colour bars in the histogram...if you click on the bottom colour bars the application crashes. 5: During my broadcast Hemmi noticed there was no setting to control TEC anywhere? Looked everywhere but couldnt see anything? Kyle - if you could look into these issues it would be great! Let me know if you require any logs. (Hemmi if your talking to Kyle could you do me a fav and point him here please)

First, very sorry for the trouble you're having with AstroLive. I care very much about the quality of my product and the experiences of my customers, so whenever I see someone having trouble with the software it is very important to me to get it fixed.
Sorry I've been absent from this forum for a while, there's so many places to keep track of.
1. I will add the auto white balance option into the Mallincam Extra Config options so you can turn it on with the software. I forgot about this since I use manual white balance and no one asked me for Auto white balance before. 2. The aligning while stacking thing sometimes gets confused like this. I haven't been able to figure out why it does that yet, but I am focusing effort on it in 1.4 to make it much more reliable. 3. This one has me baffled. Can you send me the log file created in My Documents\AstroLive\logs at goodwink@gmail.com please so I can investigate further? 4. The bottom color bars on the histogram you mean the lower histogram, when you click on the sliders down there or the graph itself? The logs should give me the info needed to solve this as well. 5. The TEC settings are located at the bottom of the right hand control panel where there's a dropdown list next to the "Send" button. It's a bad interface, but there's a list there for color bars, TEC on/off, crosshairs, etc. It's built like this because each camera I support has a different set of custom commands which it supports which show up here, but I need to come up with a much more obvious way to show these commands.
Thanks for the feedback!

Kyle,
One other thing about the histogram:
How come when you adjust the individual colors, Why dos it not shift the peaks on the histogram? This would be helpful, so you could shift all the peaks to overlap each other. Otherwise your just guessing with your eyes. I like to view the histogram of the image changing live so I can get a more accurate color balance. Because I'm color blind..LOL
For reference to what I'm talking about, look at Deep Sky Stacker and look how the histogram works. As you move the individual color sliders the histogram shifts the color peaks. This allows you to see when all the color peaks line up.
Regards,
Hemmi

Yeah, that's how I intended it to work. I'm not sure why it's not doing it. This is what I get trying to put too many feature requests into one release. I'll look into it, Kyle

Thanks for the feedback! Kyle Thanks for fast response on this Kyle! Much appreciated! 1: Thats great news man! That will make a big difference in my opinion. For people like me that knows very little about histogram stuff i was stumped as to how i was meant to get the colour right. 2: Ok thanks im glad your aware of the issue. Im sure i speak for all Alt/az'ers out there when i say when this works it will be amazing!! 3: Will send them over no worries. 4: Yes the lower histogram. When you click on the colour buttons on the right. 5: Ok i did find this. However was getting an error message. Off the top of my head i think it read something like "Cant perform when camera is in hyper mode". Its quite possible i was trying to do this while the camera was integrating though. So that would prob explain that. However if possible would be nice to see the same as milo with the level options 0-8 for the TEC Seems like a great bit of software you have made!

Can't perform this in Hyper mode is because I have the commands locked out when you're in long exposure mode since several of them lock up the camera if you send them while in long exposure mode. The cooler controls, I believe, are safe to send during that time, though, so I will try to make it so those aren't locked out. The interface is somewhat more abstract from the camera settings on AstroLive versus Miloslick since Miloslick only controls the Mallincam and can directly use all its terminology and interface. AstroLive has to accommodate settings for many video cameras which is difficult enough, but then also for all the still CCD cameras it supports, so it's a somewhat different beast even before taking into account the mount control, electronic focusing, etc.

Thanks Kyle i understand it must be mega difficult to cater for all cameras Keep up the good work its a great bit of software! And looking forward to seeing a resolution to the issues

Chris,
Which input on your grabber are you using with the camera, Composite or S-Video? My theory for why the video feed isn't showing up until you open Miloslick is that the selection for the video input in the Mallincam driver properties in AstroLive isn't the same as the video input you have the camera connected to, and when you open Miloslick it switches the grabber to the correct input which allows AstroLive to start capturing the video.
I will have a new build for you soon to fix the histogram issues.

Hemmi,
Were you looking at the output (lower) histogram or the input (upper) histogram when you were looking for the color peaks to move as you adjusted? I was just doing some testing and it seems to be working. The lower histogram shows the results of your changes and the upper one shows the original image, so as soon as you make an adjustment and release the slider on the upper histogram you should see the colors change in the lower histogram.
Thanks,
Kyle

Thanks, Kyle Thanks, Kyle To be honest I was testing on my laptop which is 1333x768 resolution and it cuts off the lower histogram. I will try it on my actual astro rig with dual 20" 1080p monitors. hemmi

Hemmi,
OK, cool. I've had a terrible time trying to get everything to fit on laptop screens. I've focused heavily on layout changes to improve that in 1.3, but I think there's still more to be done. In 1.4 the bottom section on the screen with the image history and observation plan can be collapsed like the left side which may be enough to give most everyone enough vertical room to work with. I'll send you and Chris a 1.4 build this afternoon/evening. I'm making one more tweak for MCX and a performance optimization then I'll send you guys a download link via private email since it'll be an unreleased beta version.

Kyle, I would like to say thank you.
It's great that a Vendor/manufacturer comes in here and answers questions about their product. Unlike some other Forums, we encourage it.

Just as an update to everyone, sorting out the issues with the aligned stacking is high on my priority list presently. It will be my next big project on AstroLive after I complete the Universe beta test currently in progress. Unfortunately as I've discovered it's a really hard problem once all the different ways images can be misaligned are taken into account. The current version will correct for skew and scaling between images in addition to x/y translation and rotation. I think that was really way to much to attempt and I don't think anyone is ever going to be significantly skewing or scaling images while live viewing since it's a continuous loop from the same camera/scope, so I will try to simplify what I correct and make it much more robust for 1.4.

Kyle Hi Kyle
Great to see you here. I think keeping the align registration simple is best like you said and perhaps just allow for slight drifting for GEM and slight drifting and rotating for Alt-AZ mounts.
Thank you for working hard on your software.
