Kyle, I downloaded the trail, but having some strange issues. My desktop resolution is 1366x768 on my laptop, however with this resolution, some items seem to get cut off. What is the recommended resolution? And is there a way to resize the fonts so that the program works on lower resolutions? Thanks Kyle! I'm working on this issue for the next minor release. I hadn't tested it on a smaller monitor until recently so I hadn't experienced it.

Thanks Kyle. I have no idea what ASCOM is. All i know is i can control my scope using Stellarium and my meade 505 cable plugged into the meade 497 hand controller. But stellarium lacks fine adjustments... So is useless for remote mount control. Btw a heads up... The link to download the ASCOM platform in the PDF doc is old. It makes you download version 6 then when you go to install astrolive it tells you that you need version 6.2 or something. Question...Ive had a very quick play about with it... i didnt connect my camera or mount tho... just my grabber (connected to my dvr with random outdoor cam). It wouldnt display the image. Does it need to be connected for camera control to be able to just view the image coming from the grabber? Thanks for the heads up on the documentation being out of date...definitely one of the challenges with documentation. I'll get it fixed. ASCOM is a platform which allows a lot of astronomy hardware to be controlled by software in a standardized way. It's sort of a translation mechanism so my program speaks ASCOM and then the ASCOM driver for your mount or focuser or whatever translates that to what the mount understands. AstroLive will not capture video until the camera is connected in the software. It synchronizes capture with the exposure time you set so that things like stacking can be performed. Feel free to send me an email goodwink@gmail.com to discuss your situation in more detail, I'm happy to lend a hand. Kyle

Hemmi,
I'd really love to be able to give you a good answer, but I think I'd be guessing at this point since I have two small daughters and development time is somewhat unpredictable. As a general range I would expect it will be sometime in the next month. Sorry I can't give you a better estimate.

Kyle,
I know your busy, but can I make another feature request? I pulse guide so I need my mount connected to my guider in order to guide. Is there anyway to add a virtual serial port into Astrolive so I can use the goto functions of your software and still pulse guide?
What I'm asking for is similar to Nexremote software where there is a virtual serial port.
Regards,
Hemmi

Sorry I've been away on vacation, so just now getting back to this. I'll try to figure out a way to do this. When you pulse guide are you doing that via ASCOM from another program? If so a good solution would be to use the Telescope Hub ASCOM driver which allows you to connect any number of programs to it and then it connects via the real mount driver once to your mount itself.

Kyle Kyle, Yes I use the celestron ASCOM driver in PHD. So are you saying I can use Poth hub to connect both your software and PHD to the celestron ASCOM driver? Hemmi

Exactly. You connect the hub to the scope and then both PHD and AstroLive to the hub and all should be well.
Clear skies,
Kyle

I purchased astrolive today, as I just got a ATIK 314l+ OSC in the mail. Hopefully this combo will work well. Can't wait to try it! Any tips on using the ATIK cameras with astrolive?
Thx,
Hemmi

I would recommend getting the focal ratio as fast as possible without causing too much vignetting or other problems and then also using the built in stacking with 3 or so images to get the nicest results. Unless you have a large monitor you'll probably also want to use the Display Window button to show the images full screen so they're scaled to optimally fit your screen. You should be able to be pretty aggressive with histogram stretching with that camera since it will be outputting at 16-bit depth.

Kyle,
Can you tell me again how to capture a log? I'm having an issue where astrolive crashes often when I do things like start/stop stacking and/or adjust histogram. This does not happen every time, but happens often enough that it is a bother.
Let me know how to capture the log and I will send them to you next time I have a chance to test.
Regards,
Hemmi

After taking about a week to get it to load on my laptop( had to kill the anti-virus) then when trying to connect my Nexstar it pops up and an "invalid driver" but with only a month to try it out and clouded out all but one night I may give it a try again with the next release. looks like a great program though

Hemmi, the logs are located at My Documents\AstroLive\logs and should be captured automatically. The file name is the date the log was captured. You should find logs from your previous sessions there and can email them to goodwink@gmail.com and I will be sure to get it sorted out for you.
Jki, I'd be happy to look at your logs as well to see what's going on with the Nexstar connection so I can fix it and send you a new version with a fresh trial.
Thanks,
Kyle

But no new trial needed, as I bought the license. Regards

Hello, I'm Kyle, developer of the AstroLive software for live processing of video astronomy. I just found this site via a link from the Mallincam group and wanted to drop by and say hello. If you have any questions about my software or processing in general I'd be happy to answer them. Thanks, Kyle Goodwin Astro Precision InstrumentsHi Kyle
It is fantastic to see you here. Looking forward to AstroLive on my next outing I am going to use it with my MCX2.
Cheers,

Talking with Hemmi last night he mentioned that the new version of astrolive is less complicated than previous versions and would be very good for Alt/Az mounts as it aligns the frames when stacking! Ive had a quick play about and it seems better than the last time i tried it.
Planning on testing this out tonight.
