So far, the new upgrade to Cloudy Nights hasn't gone as smooth as most thought it would. I can't even log in! With the new system you have to now sign in using your email address, then because it won't recognise your password (it didn't transfer passwords) you have to use your email address to access the 'Change Password' function. Problem: It doesn't even recognise my email address!!!!! so I can't even go change my password. I looked all over the new site for a 'Contact Us' tab but there isn't one, so I can't even ask them what email address I have in their system. I have had this same email address for about 6 or 7 years but I have been a member of CN for about 8 years so it will be some long forgotten email. But I can't ask them. So I decided to go to the TOS link to see how to contact them only to be sent to another website asking me if I would like to set up a website! Lots of problems so far, and the feedback on some pages from many members isn't very positive. I know changes take a while for people to get used to, but it would be nice to be able to get in there to see the new changes And there is no way to contact them

Ken, I know your pain. Guess it will take what it takes. My greatest fear is we will lose the history feature of the old Classifieds. As a "gear-head", I fear for the worst. Que sera, sera, they say...

I have emailed 'Astronomics' who own Cloudy Nights letting them know that the new CN upgrade has no 'Contact Us' and I need to be sent the email address they have me listed under in CN.

Ken I had no problem getting on there, maybe due to me only being a member for a couple of years. I hope they get in contact with you so you can log in. I'm not too thrilled about the new look either, huge difference between the old and new forum. All a matter of getting used to the new forum. I think there is too much on there and unless you know how to navigate the forum it may be difficult for some, and might turn away potential new members and even the lurkers. Plus side for us here is that the members who would be in the video forum might come over here since it's much easier. That type of forum layout works and looks good for a certain type of forum/site, but for astronomy there are too many steps to get to the category you want. I may look into the that provider/host for my own forum since the main home page is the type of layout that would work best for me and my sponsors.
anyhoo, hope yer able to get things straight there.

Edit to the above... They should have gone with another host. Been checking into to it and the cost per month is very high and you get more and can create a better functioning forum with other hosts at a fraction of the cost. Might explain why you (Ken) and maybe others can't log in.
I have a feeling they might be making a change again in the near future. Be sure to save yer log in info and email addy used.

There are several threads of complaints in there.
I still haven't had anyone from Astronomics email back yet. And there is still no Contact info anywhere on the site.
Can one of you that can get in there mention that there is no 'Contact Us' email link for those of us that can't get in until they tell us our email we used in there. Pretty big oversight not having a 'Contact Us' link.
(I hope we have a contact point to us here at Video Astronomy Forum for our non-members or if a member can't log in)

Ken have you tried to click on Join and re-register again as if you was a new member and use the same email and password
you can also sign in with a twitter or facebook account if you've got one

John, yes, I did try that. Also, I don't have a Facebook or Twitter. And if I re-join as a new member I lose all my post count, join date, all my past info including having to do my Profile page and galleries again. What a pain in the butt. I'll just have to wait until I get hold of the email address I used back 8 years ago. They will lose quite a few people with this change-over. Some are already saying that if certain things aren't fixed they won't be staying as members. But with more than 70,000 members I don't think CN really cares

Yep, seems a lot of people are not happy. This is normal when a website or forum has to get with the times, up grade etc etc. I will be doing the same with my forum this year and know I will lose up to half the members. As with CN the high member count does not reflect the the hard core active members. The 70K they have there could be a large number of old registered members, those who registered just for info etc. My forum is the same way, people register and then never post or return. It's the way things are. The new CN is not too bad. I like many of the features and some of the layout. BUT I don't like the main page and especially the posting/thread pages. Unlike here, you have a small column of posts/threads and it looks more like a personal blog page than a forum. Also it is hard to read the posts when they are identical as the signatures.
You know I will be on this forum 99% of the time now, the other 1% will be reference searching on the web and NSN.

Yes, unfortunately the new CN format is designed to look good on Pads and mobile phones. That's the way things are going now. I keep hearing computer Tech's hinting that Desktops and Laptops will soon be a thing of the past. Ancient design. Windows 8 is the start of the end, and now websites are following on. New layouts will soon be designed for Vertical screens not the old traditional horizontal TV style orientation. And for 'touch' and 'Voice' only, not 'mouse'. Even new TV's are now voice controlled. We have to move along with the changes

yep all fine and dandy if you can afford to keep up with those changes. Seems every year there are advances and what you though that you had was up to date, is not anymore..lol

There are so many complaints coming in thick and fast in the complaints thread! Some of them from highly experienced programmers with excellent comments about how they have totally stuffed it by rushing in and doing it wrong. Others suggesting better, cheaper platforms that are much more user friendly, etc.

Yep that sums it all up. Before I switched my forum over the the PB V5 I tested everything in the beta forum. I actually started a forum that is soley for testing any and all codes and plug ins before they get placed on the actual forum. It would have made more sense for CN to set up a beta site for members to use and try out to get familiar with the new one. Like I mentioned above somewhere, they should have gone with something different. A big thing to remember about this hobby and websites related, is that most members and people who do this hobby, are lets face it, older people and not teenagers who do nothing but sit in front of pc's, iphones, xboxes. We are all getting older and when we come across a site like the new CN one, I don't have the patience for it and move on.
I am quite sure the complaints will continue for some time
