I may have found the reason for my focusing problem. I took off the nosepiece I was using last night and there is a magnifying glass lens element in it! I didn't bother to replace the nosepiece when I ordered the one recommended by Hemmi since they were both the same length. I don't know where I got the nosepiece with the lens element in it or why I got it. I just assumed that it was just an empty adapter tube like the one I recently ordered. The weird thing is that I've been using this nosepiece, along with my Anteres .5x FR on my Celestron 6" SCT (with a .63 FR in front of the diagonal) with seemingly no problems. Before I noticed this today, I ground about 1/4" off of the plastic nosepiece. I have a .25" spacer that I can use in front of the .5x FR, so I don't think I've done any irreparable harm. I won't know what's going on though until I get a clear shot at a star or two. Hopefully I can try tonight.
If anyone has any idea what that magnifying nosepiece that I've been using is, or why I might have installed it, please chime in. It's made of metal and has no identifying markings on it.

OK, I got it sorted out. I removed the nosepiece with the lens element, screwed on the short nosepiece that I had ground down a bit, screwed on my .25" spacer (to compensate for the material I had removed from the nosepiece), and screwed on my Antares .5x FR. I mounted my SCB 2000 in the Starblast 4.5" scope, slewed to Sirius, and was able to achieve focus with a little in-travel left on the focuser. I think I'll be very happy with this set-up now. I wasn't able to do any viewing last night since the clouds rolled in after I got my focus problem sorted out. The sky should clear in a few days so I'll be able to give this combo a proper evaluation.
