Bob, you could say its a interphase between camera and pc or laptop, with your Hyper you do a straight connection to your monitor because the monitor has AV in and the circuit board to convert it. pc's don't have this so you have to use a grabber which has the circuit board built into to store the frames and convert it into a image and the software with the codec's. hope I've explained it ok
just dug this out
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frame_grabber

New ezcap grabber works VERY good ..can see a massive improvement I capture via cctv dvr and view on the attached monitor image a bit grainy but ok..but I use a splitter to capture av feed to that monitor to the grabber to pc ...and a big WOW...the image between both monitors is like night and day...the usb grabber image is a lot better..im very happy with it

Review on the ezcap software .. arcsoft the biz... Very basic to say the least, no bells n whistles with this free software it captures ok with the grabber but is so basic its draconian compared to other video editing software ive had for camcorders. .I would do a few snapshots when recording because I cant do it once its captured via the software it captures to mp2 but I tried it in Windows and another program and it looked mince .im currently converting it to avi with yhe software but its slower than a week in jail (im led to believe) lol..will update more later if it ever finishes..grabber = a1 ..software = mince
