Booked up for the Galloway forest star camp at dunroamin caravan site start of November. First star camp so lm looking forward to it.
First order of business was to download the latest sharpcap software and upgraded to the pro version.. This lets me get back into using it. Will be using backyard Eos as well. Kit wise undecided,, will wait and see how weather is prior to going,, to decide on mount I'm taking

Yep, looks plenty big enough Davy. Personally I am fed up with years and years of tents, so I am currently building myself a camper to slide onto my utility trailer. Nearly finished it. I go bush every week and camp over about once a month, so it will get used a lot. It's a pop top Here's where I am up to in its construction:

Very nice Ken. Strange timing ... was just over at a mates place on Sunday picking up some free blurays as he is updating all his old ones to 4k. Anyway, he's doing something very similar to you only he is building the unit to slip onto a standard 7x5 trailer which can be hired from Bunnings hardware stores for $50 for 24 hours. As he doesn't do much camping nor has much storage at his home for a trailer I thought what a neat idea. He saves $2000 for a trailer and for whatever the annual cost of rego and maintenance is. Same idea as you except you own your trailer. Very neat rig there ... a new business venture starting up for you eh?

I've had to cancel my trip to the star camp,, came down with a bad chest infection and struggling away at work with it,, last thing I want to do is possibly recover and then camp out in the freezing cold and be off work,, the other mechanic is due a double hernia operation and goes on Monday to find out when he is going to get his giblets done 😂,, he has waited 12 Weeks for an appointment so he may get pulled in anytime,, and has an 8wk recovery period,, so will be me and a second year apprentice having to cover,, I'm the only MOT tester so will need to cover Saturday shifts as only.. So can't see me being in the good books if end up taking sick days.. Spent a few quid on stuff but will get used at some point,, Always next year lol

That is disappointing Davy. Camping and feeling sick is not a good combination.
Ken,I am going to a Star Party over near you next Saturday. It appears most of those attending will be Astrophotographers. I have never seen AP in action and will be interested in seeing what they do and equipment they have. I am not going to camp.I am too soft for that these days. I have booked in to the Snake Valley pub for the night. If you are around, how about we catch up? I wont know anyone at the Star Party so it could be a lonely night for this VA'er
Lately,I have been taking a bit of interest in what AP's post on IceInSpace. They certainly are perfectionists and put an enormous amount of time and effort into their images.I dont have the patience to ever consider trying to do what they do. Also,it would be a pretty steep learning curve I suspect. When I do a viewing session,I usually only have 2 or 3 dso's that I want to see and then pack up usually after about an hour. That wouldnt get me very far in AP. They wonder why we would want to image a number of objects in one session when we could image one good one.
I responded to a few questions on the Rasa 8 on that forum. From what I can gather on other forums, many of the Rasa 8's have a very slight mirror tilt as does mine. In fact it seems to be very common on any of the f/2 scopes including hyperstar and it is a very difficult thing to eliminate. The tilt doesnt bother me at all as it is just a few tiny donut stars in one corner but astrophotographers seem to find any tilt unacceptable for what they want to do. I think the Rasa is perfect for VA and gives very good images quickly but the AP'ers are a bit more hesitant. I wont be taking the Rasa to the party . It stays in the pod on the EQ6. Too big and heavy for me to be carting around. I will take the Esprit 80 and the C6 . The Party is 3 or 4 nights, but I will only go for the Saturday. cheers Paul

I am the founder of it and ran it for 16 Camps (8 years), but one particular person caused MAJOR grief to myself and several others and I pulled the pin on running future camps. Another person took over the running of it and has been doing so since. Me, or our Astro Club no longer have any connection to it. But, several of the attendees of the camp come down here to our site to catch up and a couple actually stay here. Our Club night is on the same Friday night as their Camp and some of our members are staying here for the weekend (the ones that don't attend the Camp). You can attend both events. Go to the lectures and talks at the camp during the day and image from here at night. We will be here at our club site all weekend.

I didnt know any of the history of the camp,Ken. I wondered why it happened to be in Snake Valley. I will only be there Saturday afternoon and night and will be staying at the Snake Valley Hotel. It would be great to catch up. Imaging from your club might be the way it works out. It appears the camp will be mainly astrophotographers. I have never seen anyone guiding and am interested in how they do their post processing etc. The time they take for one image is definitely not for me but I would like to see it in action anyway. Davy, Make sure you get seen to cheers Paul
