Thanks for that Ken. I have followed Dylan O'Donnell for a while. In fact I think he is in the same astronomy club as Howie. It was Howie who suggested I speak to Dylan but that was before Dylan got his Rasa 8. He has had a Rasa 11 youtube video for a couple of years. I should contact him now as that Rasa8 youtube is now more than a month old and he is sure to have used the scope a number of times. Basically, I must have an IR cut so I lashed out and bought the Rasa8 LP filter from Bintel. It arrived today and I have just inserted it and hopefully the clouds will clear tonight. I appreciate your research. With a bit of luck it wont cut out too much good galaxy uv. Given the choice ,I wouldnt have bothered with all the light pollution stuff, but this filter is the only one available for the Rasa8. After that 224 image with the starbloat, some IR cut is needed and I dont have much choice. will keep you posted cheers Paul

It is supposed to be clear, but it is not cheers Paul Bummer! Clear here and had a good show for visitors. Had them crowded in the Control Room tonight and I was showing off the usuals through the RT IMX224. Was a great night but packed up at midnight because we have another group coming up from Melbourne tomorrow night. I need my rest Good luck with the RASA LP filter Paul. I hope it fixes the star bloat.

Skies cleared just after I packed up .I did get the impression that the filter significantly dimmed the objects that I got to look at on the 224. Wasnt sure if it was filter or cloud, but there was no star bloat. Will give the 294 a run tonight. Tonight should be very clear. Sounds like a busy weekend for you Ken . There is a dark sky night at the ASV (Astronomical Society of Victoria) site in Heathcote tonight with the public unveiling of the new 40 inch dob. It is 30 mins up the road. Decisions, decisions. If I go to Heathcote I will take the C6 on an alt/az. If I stay at home it is the Rasa and I get to test out the filter on the 294 I had a look through that monster dob last year. It was a hot day and a cool night. Collimating that 40 inch mirror is a nightmare if there is a significant temperature change. cheers Paul

Got the tarantula on 294 and rasa 15" x 4 no filter. Cant get decent images with the 224 and 290 with no filter. on the 290 no filter 1365 (again) 12"x15 with filter 12"x15 not sure why I got cigars here . I was doing so many changes of cameras and filters I must have knocked alignment out.
224 10"x6 no filter 224 15x4 with filter 178 6"x10 no filter
294 10"x 6 no filter I know the exposures etc are all over the place. They were essentially the best images I could get at the time for those cameras. What I can say is that in my hands , the 294 on the rasa gives me the best results and I dont need to use a filter. The 178 and the 294 didnt need the filter but the 290 and 224 did. Why is that? There is no pattern with pixel size. The 294 has the biggest pixel and 178 is smallest of the 4 cameras. So why does the number of pixels seem to make a difference ? cheers Paul

Interesting how the 178 and 294 are sharp without the filter, whereas 290 and 224 are not. I checked on the specs of each sensor and discovered 178 and 294 are Backlit sensors but 224 isn't. But 290 is, so that theory didn't work Very interesting image results Paul.

Do it, with the IMX224 is a big difference and you avoid this blue tone and color dead pixels in your shots.
You wiil meet a BIG difference.
