I dont use the ED80 enough for VA. I have spent a lot of time trying to get decent images with the sct's. I have meade lx90 scts, celestron c6 with hyperstar and now the RASA 8. For VA your sct has to be very fast . I have used coupled 6.3 fr and have been unhappy with the results. I was happier with a meade 3.3 coupled with a prostar .5 which made the system f3. Both these systems require smaller sensors . The best images I have on sct's are f2. My c6 needs a small sensor like the 178 or 224 . The RASA8 or the C8 with hyperstar have an image circle large enough for the 294. My RASA 8 despite its mirror tilt problems still produces the best images I can do. If using an sct for VA and no hyperstar, you will need more than 30 secs exposure for deep sky and therefore an equatorial mount. I am very happy with the C6 with hyperstar on an alt/az and that is my travel scope.(It is with me on holiday at present but I have been too lazy to set it up) My lx90's are alt/az and whilst great for visual and planets, just dont cut it for VA in my opinion. cheers Paul
