Thanks John. Yes mate, we are sitting here right now at 10:30pm sweating in 36 degrees celsius still. Was 38 today, 39 yesterday, and over 40 in towns around here. I have air conditioning being fitted to my house on January 10th. Can't wait! I live in a high risk bushfire area. Only had one near us so far this summer and they got it under control late this afternoon. Stay warm John

I have air conditioning being fitted to my house on January 10th. Can't wait! I live in a high risk bushfire area. Only had one near us so far this summer and they got it under control late this afternoon. Stay warm John We had heat in mid November Ken ... 30 to 37C. All your firefighters were up here then to help us out here in Queensland, as the State had around 1,800 fires burning fiercely. Luckily in the end they were all put out by Tropical Cyclone Owen! To the point where North Queensland is still flooded in some parts! As Dorothy MacKellar said in her famous poem ... "A land of drought and flooding rains"!! But Xmas here in Brisbane the past couple of weeks has been great ... 26 to 30C with cool 17-20C at night. Most unusual for Brisbane! Guess the heat "spot" migrated down to you Southerners! I presume you have solar power there Ken ... I did it the wrong way around. LOL. Put A/C in years ago, but only just one month ago put 3.25kW worth of solar panels on the roof. I've "officially retired and now can grab some Super ... which I have done to do a reno on my place and also put the solar on. Should'nt have to pay for electricity for 3/4 of the year, and they should halve the bill for the Summer quarter. My 7 kW invertor A/C which does the whole downstairs uses about 3Kw per hour Ie about 70 cents of power per hour! But as its really only used for some periods in Summer, it only adds about $250 to my normal bill (Ie My bill is normally about $250 per quarter for 3 quarters/Seasons of the year but doubles to $500 in Summer due the A/C). The solar should negate the bill to almost $0 for 3/4 of the year (once I put the timer on the hot water cistern so it only kicks in during the day when the solar is powering it all), and then maybe $250 for Summer ... so about $1000 per year saving. So a 4 year payback on the solar ... provided the invertor and such doesn't blow up in the heat of Australia!. Merry Christmas to all and a Happy cloud free night sky to all for 2019, Howie

Merry Christmas all. I suppose it gets hotter inland (Ken) and up in Qld (Howie). But for the foreseeable future it's 32-35 in our part of Sydney. At least it cools down to 20ish at night though
And we've got aircon but the one in the car went bung last week! I'll definitely have to look at solar (for the house not the car) and maybe an Adelaide-like battery bank.
Hope you all had a great Christmas and all the best for 2019

All the best for 2019. Solar ... and batteries ... yes. Waiting to vote Labour in next election as Shorten promised a rebate scheme on solar batteries. He's bought my vote! Ha ha. I would not have done solar power if I was going to sell. Which I was hoping to do, and move Westward to get dark skies. But once I decided to give astro away, it was an easy decision to plonk down the dough for panels. Payback time should be 3 years.Maybe faster, as there's several days it puts 18 or more kW out. Over the past year my old plasma TV (energy guzzler), fridge, and surround sound system all died ... lasting about 18 years so had a good run. But the new LED TV, new heat pump inverter fridge, and one 4K player and a small sound bar .... I use heaps less power than I used to. Short video below (link below titled Howies Power Bliss") shows my lounge kitchen and dining downstairs area all air conditioned with me watching tennis on TV, and sound bar pumping out the sound. Yet, go out to the power box and the power meter is running backwards ! Ie. Solar panels are still pumping energy into the grid. Turns in the normal right hand direction if its drawing power from the grid, and vice versa when I'm making more power than using from the grid! So Summer heat and being worried about the bill with the AC on .... not a problem any more. Howies Power Bliss

LOL!!!! Backwards Eventually, in the not too far future, power stations will be non-existent. We will all make each others electricity, just as you are doing there Howie. It will go to the grid and be shared out . . . at a cost of course
