Over at the flat for a few days and fitted the skywatcher finder scope base to the new ovl focuser tonight,, that's the ed80 back to fully functional now,, dialed in the settings for as far as I could out flat window ,,set up finder,, The new focuser is absolutely brilliant and well worth changing. Would I have changed it if I hadn't knackered the original,, nope no way,, didn't think it could get much better,, how wrong was I,, deffo worth it,, In my humble opinion,,

LOL ... the telecoms tower down the road is my daytime test object too!! Although ... most of the towers in my area have a basket like steel cage structure on top specifically for birds to nest in. Mine has a pair of beaut Sea Eagles which return each year and have offspring. So while tuning in the focus point on a scope or testing the camera/software all still working, I at least have something interesting to "observe" on top of the tower.

When I set up outside of my Observatory I use a particular tree more than 2 kilometres away

Bit of testing today canon 450d camera, fd to eos adapter and fd lens,, camfi WiFi control,, won't work with fd lenses,, looking like the canon with fd lenses will be done via backyard eos,, Santa job for a fast eos lens by looks of things 😁

Looks like a fault on the 450d camera,, not working correctly with the camfi unit,, need to retest the kit again using a 600d camera,, rule out what's faulty,, camera, lens or camfi unit,, old story again two steps forward one step back,, will get there,, getting closer all the time to what I want in a portable kit

Test done, canon 450d faulty,😣, tested my standard zoom lens ok,no problem,, stuck on the fd lens and it works fine with the camfi unit,, I have ordered a second eos to fd adapter so I can leave one on each of the fd lenses,, so back on track,, will be using standard canon 600d and either the 50 or 130 fd lens on either the zwo or canon,, whatever takes my fancy,, ,,

Finally got round to testing,,last night was a good night but totally wiped out, tonight I went for it ,,wall to wall clouds then I finally got a clear patch.
Usual woes. Must have nudged the on switch on star adventurer,, batteries flat,no spares and could not be bothered finding power adapter. Àh Jupiter finally shone through ,got some astrophotography shots but core blown out, using DSLR and standard lens,, nifty 50 lens on zwo was OK,,not fantastic but it's a start, the bigger FD lens requires a laser guide to get on target, ERM could not find Jupiter lol,,needs exposure setting dialled in as well,, Nothing startling with FD lenses,, need darker site or nights at least,, hitting scope tomorrow high if clear

Was caught between clouds coming in towards Jupiter area if sky or try and get some settings dialed in on the zwo 178 with f2.8 fd lens in the moon, by Time I got set up moon was not far off dropping behind the roof of flats. No joy getting a moon image in zwo,, could not pinpoint the moon,, ordered a green laser pen to elastic band it to lens.. got one image from dslr as it dropped below roofline, Was all set up tonight, az gti,,ed80 and new ovl focuser 😍, 0.85 focal reducer and adapters,, getting image from nearby trees,, and it's wall to wall clouds,, So my one and only astrophotography picture, canon 600d ,f 5.6,, I think,, iso 200,,I think,,,lol,, I was rushing.. Camfi WiFi control to laptop. 1/30 exposure

Well it's certainly not the lack of trying to get out,, would like a have decent night with a half moon to dial in zwo settings on zwo 178 and fd lens.. The ovl focuser upgrade is fantastic,, well worth upgrading to. Really swithering on selling my boss the az3 and sw star travel 102 black diamond .. could put the money towards the illusive sw evostar ed72.. but I've took a notion on the 120mm refractor.. decisions lol

davy, I added some words toa SGL thread we're both been posting in .... here's what I said about that blokes proposal for two cameras feeding one image .... "You know, years ago in the days that Mallincam AV cameras were King, I saw a post on another forum about a guy who was sending the analogue video feed from the MC camera into a Sony HMD. IE the early days of virtual reality headsets. Those Sony HMD's were uber expensive (for me anyway!). But I loved the idea. So when you folk get these dual camera setups working, as well as trying your twin setups to more rapidly reduce noise/ more rapidly increase SNR, etc it would be interesting to see if there's a VR headset which will display two feeds side by side ala stereoscopically. Now be careful about what I am saying here as I very much doubt that the width apart of the two cams are going to make any difference at all in yielding a 3D effect .... they are simply no where near far enough apart to do that given the distances to the objects being viewed. But ... the two images each contain different noise and different bits of clarity, and just like the stacking software your brain should combine the two diff noise/clarity images into one instantly presenting to you a cleaner and more detailed 'view'. And as per the Mallincam Sony HMD guy waaaaay back about 7 years ago, in the absence of any peripheral light or people distractions give the viewer a totally immersive floating in space experience."
