I do have 2 images of the 287.There is a stack of 37 x 1 secs where I neglected the histogram and was reluctant to show it for obvious reasons but here it is anyway. I also forgot to mention ,I used a .5 prostar focal reducer.

Gidday Davy At least I could get it to stack on sharpcap and the toupcam astro driver did a better job than the RisingSky which kept freezing. To me, this camera might be sensitive but it seems to have a lot of noise that I couldnt do much about with stacking. It will be interesting to see what Ken can do with it. I didnt get much time with it but my impressions are negative. Hiten from CN talked about 1 to 2 sec exposures on his 14"dob. I would have liked to try short exposures on my 12" dob which is goto but clouds put a stop to that. CloudFreeNight weather site predicts clouds tonight so the camera is on its way to Ken. The sky is clear at the moment. Thats the way it is Paul

We all know that,, every photon counts and you need a decent exposure to capture the faint details in the night sky,, the current technique is short exposures stacked this is due to noise from the sensors used,, to me we are going backwards to suit camera manufacturers,, a camera and let's be honest here should be doing longer than two seconds before the camera produces an unacceptable noise display on an image,, look back a few years to the Sammy scb2000 good enough camera,, but when you cool it ,,it becomes a cracking camera,, OK so the new zwo cameras come with cooling,, AT A PRICE These cameras need cooling ,no doubt about it so why are we farting around with USB non cooled camera's.
I'm rebuilding up my analogue kit to compare how things were to how they are now. I would like it if anyone else would give it a go as well to have a second opinion.
I'm going to use the watec 902h with 1/2 sensor,, few bits on order before I can start. What's the views folks,, have I lost the plot 😀

Yep, the cooling certainly makes a difference davy. Both my Mallincams have cooling but I hate terrible square stars due to low resolution. For me it's a trade off. Cooling with ugly stars, or non cooled and noisy but with nice detail Or spend more megabucks and get a High Res cooled camera

Looking to get my watec 902h camera back in business, I have 2 now, can't be bothered pulling flat apart so ordered a new easycap grabber, bnc coaxial cable and c to t adapter , going to give it a bash in the ed80,, still wanting an observatory for the big gear and set up ready to go asap, but in the meantime will content myself with the car set up... Looking more towards the mono camera with hydrogen alpha filter for a different direction ,, just keep adding to the kit lol. Wanting the live experience again

Bugger davy .... just missed your earlier posts re getting back to old skool. If you are willing to pay the postage I can send you my old VSS+ Mallincam and video grabber and even (but the postage would be expensive) the old Sony 10" trinitron TV analogue monitor. Let me know if interested. Cheers Howie Edit: oops just saw Kens post and he's right ... and my ol VSS+ does indeed have those blocky stars ... but it is cooled. Anyway ... if you want it cough up the postage and it's yours.

What's the views folks,, have I lost the plot 😀 davy, I've said it before but I'll say it again ... if I could afford the Sony A7S (at $4,000+ body-only here in Australia) then I'd get one. I think I've previously posted up DSO live view video 30fps and so on ... it is IMO where all the camera's are heading. But hopefully at less cost. I happened to check todays IceInSpace classifieds and a bloke is selling a WO 71 zenithstar and in his advert he mentions he did a review on the scope in his blog ... and in his blog he has a link to him using an A7S as a finder ... check out the video in the link below and you'll see why I hope the future is the way of the Sony super low light capabilities. Yes, there's heaps of amp glow or something but the promise is crazy exciting ...

Wow Howie, that is exciting. That is the kind of 'Live' viewing I am after, but not at that price. I can wait until the prices drop

Lol, Howie it's not much cheaper here,, would need to sell a kindney, lung and heart,, well maybe just a kidney and lung everybody knows I've no got a heart 😂. A7 is nice but I think Sony is going to keep this sensor price high to keep the A7 price up,, just like diamond trade keep it rare and scarce and you will keep the market price high.
To me cooling is the answer to a lot of problems,, I've made the post's saying I'm interested in old school video but,, you know me always thinking ahead, The watec 902h is very small so could be added to a cooled enclosure and peltier cooling at some stage.
I was looking through the watec range and the watec 910hx is a nice camera but it's £479 and never seen a second hand one yet. Can only wish 😀.... Santa please

That's a 4 year old Video davy. Have Watec put that sensor into an actual camera body yet?
