Man it's been so long getting half decent weather to get out and see the stars.
I have managed two nights in succession and been chuffed to bits, not perfect last night was cold and damp had a fair bit of rain during the day but managed a bit of testing again,, I've crossed over to the dark side for the time being testing kit for going to Iceland in February and it's a tough call,
I need a tracking mount and opted for the Skywatcher az gti I was interested in the new technology, i.e the wireless function of controlling the mount.
I do like it for what it does but like all portable kit it has plus and minus features but it was this or the Skywatcher adventurer.
The CAMFI is a nice bit of kit but I won't take it to Iceland it can be buggy at times and I binned it off my kit last night, CAMFI was connected to my tablet and on live view it was mince on the moon, camera focus through view finder was spot on but miles off on the tablet screen, now on deep wide field it's very good but useless on lunar, hooked up a cable timer Shutter unit and used it in manual mode,, bang on, so it's going on a trip to Iceland 😀.
Had the sw ed80 on the az gti for second time , first time out I never extended the legs and was a bit worried about stability but last night I extended the legs and was more stable,, next thing to try is ditching the extension tube to see if it makes it better.
I had the use of the ed80 finder scope and just visually looking at targets between clouds and it just brings back how good live view video Astronomy is compared to astrophotography,,, in my humble opinion ...
I'm troubled as like most I like to have an image to look back at to
1.. remind me of the event
2.. to give me an idea of comparison on how the image may look on a different scope camera combination.
I have been looking at getting a usb camera to get back to the pure pleasure of live viewing ,, something sensitive but easy to set up and use and capture to a laptop,,. Think I've deviated through all aspects of video astronomy and techniques but I found I needed to explore these things as a member of this forum,, it's a teaching forum so having my experiences may help others..
Doesn't half build up your kit though lol.
