... today its cloudy and blowing 40+ km/hr! LOL
Not the only bad Astro luck, as I ordered a two speed GSO focuser to replace the single speed one on my favourite OTA (the Skywatcher f/5 200mm Newt), but it was a dead on arrival focuser! Even with all tension screws undone, the focus knob would barely turn for half the rotation, but then turn easy for the remaining half rotation. It's on its way back to vendor.
Hopefully I'll get to try out the L-Pro filter tomorrow evening, as the forecast is good. I hope it does work nicely, as then I can setup at home in the townhouse complex in Brisbane, and won't have to drive an hour to get away from the city lights.
Cheers Howie
(Update 2:09pm Brissie time) 70 km/hr winds now!

Sounds like your Spring Westerlies have arrived Howie. Earth wind map shows you currently have around 42k earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/isobaric/1000hPa/orthographic=-209.61,-27.41,1156/loc=153.129,-27.482 EDIT: You'll have to zoom and rotate on the Earth Wind map with your mouse because the last part of the link didn't work. The last part is supposed to take you to Brisbane LOL!

What a cool site Ken! Shows a couple of very low pressure (cyclonic looking) systems up near Japan and Korea.
Yeah Chris ... much calmer today ... charging the batteries to hopefully get out tonight and test the filter. Which reminds me, I'd better go out and shoot the white balance frames with the L-Pro filter on.
Cheers Howie

If you click on any place it tells you the wind speed etc. It's very handy for real wind info for Astronomy. I also use it to watch Australia's Cyclones in action.

Still can't crack a win / Astro night ... Friday was high cloud, last night I had to go out to dinner, today its blowing 33k again with forecast tonight of 15k wind. Maybe tomorrow night I can actually get out and try the filter ... when I do get out I will do globs to post in the object of the month thread.

We've got a damaging wind warning for tonight! Been lovely all day for a change, but the bad stuff is coming in a couple of hours. Typical

White balancing always confuses me. I know why you do it ... but I have problems with altering it with filters - even though I do it myself. Without a light pollution filter you set the balance so rgb are in the right proportions. Cool, I get that. So now you put on an LPF to get rid of pollution. It reduces colours where the pollution is worse. I get that. So then why do we white balance withe the LPF on ?? I don't get that. Presumably that will reverse the drop in those parts of the spectrum we have reduced to get rid of the pollution. Am I getting it wrong? If so, how ? It just adds to the ever growing list of stuff that just confuses me. Dazed and confused as always. Chris What a cool site Ken! You're in good company ... me too! ... and also ... Led Zeppelin "Dazed and confused!" I consulted the web and found Jerry Lodriguez (who is guru of AP and has won many awards). His interesting article is in link down below. He specifically says to White Balance with filters on for both modded and unmodded cameras. So I did! However, I didn't know why to do that from reading Jerry's article. www.astropix.com/html/i_astrop/customwb.htmlMaybe someone will add the proper info in how this works.
