Hello everyone!
I intend to do a live broadcast from NW Missouri on Monday August 21st from about 10am CDT to about 3pm CDT. I know that is super early in the morning for some of you, but I would love to have you join in for some live views.
As of this time, I am planning to do some broadcasts on Facebook. I'll be publishing those live on my new public page, "Astronomy Adventures with Rick". It's a public page and you're welcome to like and follow it. I'll hopefully be doing some live Q&A as well. I may also be doing some live Instagram videos. My Instagram is rick_nwark. Not sure if I will try anything else - YouTube live or Skype or Periscope.
I plan to have two views at minimum that I may switch broadcasts between.
1) White Light Solar View - this will be with my Celestron 9.25" Evolution, a Thousand Oaks glass filter, and my Mallincam SSI camera. I may mess around a bit with focal reduction or Barlow, depending, but I envision this being the primary view of the coverage of the Eclipse.
2) Hydrogen Alpha View - this will be with one of my 80mm refractors (possibly the Orion EDT) and with my newly acquired Daystar Quark Chromosphere and my RisingTech IMX224 camera. I hope to share both surface detail and some prominences with it.
I also hope to have some time-lapse photos or videos taken with a DSLR to share with everyone post-Event.
As you can imagine, I have a lot of testing to do so that everything goes smoothly. I'll be doing some of that this weekend and next week - as well as the weekend before the Eclipse. I'd appreciate any feedback / advice / etc.
I really hope that I can share this event with some of you.
I'll post updates in this thread on my testing and status.

Cool Rick Will all these broadcasts (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube live, Skype, Periscope) be simultaneous or will you be changing to each one, one at a time?

Ken,
I am going to use the Facebook page to keep track of it all. I imagine that I will have some that will only be for short periods of time. I don't want to get too many different platforms. I could always do NightSkiesNetwork as well but the talk-over audio could be troublesome.

I will be at work but will try and peek in as often as I can 😀
I was on watching Howie do a broadcast at the weekend, it was good to get some live broadcasts in again.. I miss the regular broadcasts that nsn used to have,, I know the weather has played a big part in not getting as many as before. But I would like to see more support given to broadcasting from the VA community. Unfortunately Astronomy live is having problems coming up with a easy format but we wish them good luck getting it sorted, it only leaves nsn broadcasting sites available to my knowledge.
Maybe we should try and get some all sky cams broadcasting and at least show what weather we have at our site.
Carol is looking at getting new broadband in as sky has been mucking her around,, couple of weeks and I hope to try and get something working then try and get some VA in.

The 'CAUTION' tape is an excellent idea Rick. I suppose you've realised by now that the first two pics are the same pic (I know, you did that on purpose to see who is paying attention LOL)

rick i dont have much access on these internet facebook sites, but i picked up the nasa broadcasts. it was well organised. i liked the info on the eastward motion of the moon's shadow, vaguely similar to retrograde motion of mars, if that does'nt sound too stupid. john.

I started out looking for Rick's broadcast but couldn't find him so I dialled into NightSkiesNetwork.com and was watching a fantastic broadcast by Andy in Missouri and Craig (Mr. Wizard) in Tacoma Washington, but NSN simply couldn't handle all the viewers on the many channels running and it kept crashing. About 40 percent the way through the eclipse NSN completely died. I went into 'You Tube' and there were hundreds of Live broadcasts and I tried a few but they were really crappy until I struck the BBC Live broadcast and it was great, so I stayed and watched theirs. I grabbed some terrific screen grabs from the BBC broadcast. The commentary by a man and a lady was also excellent. Congrats to BBC for doing an excellent job.

We had rain and clouds until about 30 minutes before Totality. I had to really adjust what I was doing and cut out all but the essentials. I was able to get the live feed up and going about 10 minutes before. When Totality hit, I forgot to take off the filter from the telescope until about half way through! But overall it was a success. My video is posted on my facebook page above.
