I think this is a record (for totally bad weather forecast for every hour of the day for a week) ...
PS I blame it on the fact the builder is onsite at my place this week extending the back patio (concreting), laying pavers and building new pergola extension. LOL

Unless OBS is on top of very tall tower rising above the cloud and rain, I don't think its a workable solution Chris! At least the pergola and solid roofing being afixed allows me to 'drown my sorrows' and 'throw a prawn on the barbie' underneath in the dry. Separate topic ... hows your guiding going? I bought an ED80 0.8x flat field corrector which has Canon T ring on end and plan (weather permitting) to start widefield imaging and guiding etc. Given davy's and your words on that new astro software I might have to give that a go. Interesting vids on it! ps Just had a thought ... wonder if I could put an OBS on top of the pergola? Cheers Aussie Howie

Got the guiding going. I got a 50mm guidescope on ebay, using it with an asi290mm in phd2. Tried it saturday night, near full moon and got 1, 2 and 5min guided single shots on the 8" newt with the asi071.
I ran the two cameras into the PC stick and drove that remotely from a PC inside. The stars looked good but the shots were horrible as didn't have flats and I was using sharcap. Massive gradient without flats and a full moon nearby.
Will use flats next. Capture with sharpcap and process with astrotoaster.

Not real good Howie What's that famous saying Queensland has to draw tourists in? Isn't it: "Beautiful one day perfect the next"? Pfft!

I asked ... the pergola quote was for 600mm centers on the bearers as that's standard pergola non-load bearing spec. If going to walk on top then needs 400mm centers between bearers, and larger bearers, and due the size more uprights, and bigger connection plates for the bearers to the house, and body corporate approval and ... on and on it went. Budget and timeframe is blown too much by that, and in the end my place is simply LP hell having 140 townhouses in red zone, security and pathway and pool and tennis court and bbq area lighting inside the complex, with small shopping centre just outside the complex,. So will stay with the 600mm centers and no OBS on top. Will continue to wait for clear forecasts and travel the hour and 20 to Lake Wyaralong.

Crikey it's been hot!!! We used to see these as Maxs, now they are the average! Even with little rain, evenings have been totally cloudy (in the main) due heat of the day pulling moisture from the ocean. Also been very hazy due farmers burnoff and all the hinterland forests throwing up heaps of gumtree haze. Not to mention the heat shimmer in the sky.
December Average 30.1C January Average 31.4C with 20 out of 31 days over 30C. Coolest (?) day 27C (just one day) then rest all over 28.5C for whole month. Max 35.7C February Average 32.4C with 27 out of 28 days over 30C. That one "cool" day was 29.2C. Max was 37.6C March so far - average 31.9C with 15 days out of 17 over 30C. Max yesterday was 36C
Of course really don't have much to complain about - just ask anyone living "out West" or "Up North". They are totally baked!
