Like everyone else,,the weather has been pretty dismal to say the least but last night I got a clear moon for half hour, was over at the flat,,fired up heq5 cdc eqmod ect ,, great views from the ed80 and sw matched focal reducer via cannon 600d and byeos.. great,, but never had a chance to use the 200. Bought this second hand ,,sw explorer 200 p with the dual speed focuser added to make it a 200pds got this to replace a knock off copy of a 200 by optron or someone,,don't get me wrong it was a good scope but mirror was starting to degrade.. So what's the problem,, I can't get enough back focus to look at the moon with a 25mm eyepiece,, strange It has 2" focal tube with a 2" to 1.25 adapter. Stuck in a 80mm 2" focal tube but was far too much back travel. Stuck in a 1.25 diagonal and was still off. Could only fit DSLR with t adapter and 1.25 nose piece.. Unfortunately clouds rolled in. Ordered a m48 male to m48 female 10mm spacer and m48 to t adapter with 5mm spacing,, hopefully that will sort it out ,,have a few short t adapter tubes so can test dslr as well. Ordered from Altair astro under £23 delivered for both,,ebay wanted £20 odd quid for one adapter and so did first light optics..well done Altair astro on pricing.. famous last words as price flies up lol

Well that was a waste of cash ,,the adapter doesn't fit,, it turns out the Skywatcher has made a right pigs ear of some of their Newtonian focusers and mine happens to be one,, the m48 thread is two small,, appears it may be m57,, but another kick in the crown jewels will need to wait... inward travel is the bit I need sorted out to fit cameras,,

Up early this morning, getting new washing machine,, the one that came with the flat packed in at Christmas so I told landlord to chill and pick one up at the sales,,no point getting stressed,, it's not astronomy or anything important lol.
So while I was waiting on the washing machine getting delivered I started testing focal lengths,, can achieve focus using a few adapters for visual,, ok fine ,,but it's an imaging scope..
The supplied 2" to 1.25 stepdown is total crap for fitting a DSLR to achieve its required inward travel,,it misses with millimetres,, I remembered that the ed80 came with a stepdown from 2" to 1.25 in the pro kit... set it up and were good to go ,,you don't have much spare travel lol.. So the 8" explorer will finally get first light soon lol. Note to anyone else coming across the problem,,, the new style stepdown solves it first go,,forget getting adapter rings to modify focuser

Couple of adapters from Altair I bought for my collection now 😞 This was the 2" to 1.25 stepdown adapter that came with the scope.. Totally useless ,,you have to add a 35mm t thread 2" focal tube to use eye pieces.. And this is the adapter you require to fit a dslr to the 8" explorer. T thread to 2" nose piece And there weren't many threads on forums on this,,so hopefully it will help another system out the problem and how to fix it.
