www.paisley.org.uk/attractions/coats-observatory/Visited this a short time ago with Carol and uncle John for the international view the moon event, as ever going to an old observatory in Scotland parking very limited,,this one was not sign posted and sat nav was not precise, the building is stunning for its age,,this was serious money that went into building this back in the day, inside it's got the original glazed tiles and is very well preserved, getting up to the level below the observatory is a spiral walkway,, getting to the observatory deck was another narrow spiral staircase,,, really don't get there idea on this, architect needed a good slap on the back of the head, terrible idea. Observatory wise another great set up,not as good as Stirling observatory, clock drive mechanism was missing, but a great telescope,, got a view of the moon,, lol. The modern telescope totally blows these old scopes away but in its day,,wow , this would have been utterly fantastic to use.. great seeing these old observatories still around and getting looked after.
