I have been asked about a good focal reducer to use with the 6SE SCT, with the ASI224MC camera.
I was trying to think of reasonably priced reducers available in Aus, but hit a brick wall. - The x0.5 (1.25") that came with the original revolution imager I always found really good on my SCT with the 224MC. But what brand is it ? Its not the same as the one from Bintel as I've got one of those - it looks different and produces a lot of coma (I suppose because it needs a smaller camera-reducer distance ??) - On CN they talk about the antares 0.5, but that's expensive to ship to Aus. - There's the Celestron F6.3, its on special at bintel, but its still $199.
Any suggestions ??

Andrews sells a GSO x0.5 for about $35.
I bought one a couple of weeks ago but the weather has been so bad I've only used it once.
On my f9.5 refractor it seems to perform better than the no-name one that came with my Revo1.

As for Focal Reducers, I have several. The ones that seems to work best for me are the ones I made myself. I have the Revolution 0.5x, Mallincm MFR5 combo kit, and even a bloody expensive 2.7 inch AstroPhysics 0.7x, but the two I made myself out-perform them all in all the scopes I use. I don't have any scientific reason why. They just work well. I have used the MFR5 in all combinations, with and without the spacers, on their own separately, etc. and yet the cheap little Revolution 0.5x gives a nicer result. It's hard to tell with FR's because there's so many things to take into consideration: Scope focal length, camera sensor size, object being observed, blah blah blah
