Had a clear view of the moon last night, few teething probs, the seeing was horrendous, turbulence due to heat thermals I'm guessing, just couldn't get aclean clear focus for video,,took a few images at 1/80th exposure and looks ok from a wide angle shot, small video capture I need to check. Problem. Connected both laptops up ,one laptop per canon 600d via byeos but on second camera it would not connect, buzzing sound when I asked software to connect to camera..have a look at it later.

Focusser now up and running, stripped it down and used multimeter on it,,both focus buttons faulty,,bad contacts,,kept flicking buttons to cause an arc,,this cleaned the connections after a short period,,so good to get this on the scope again ,you dont relise how good these are till you have one,,,using the startravel 102 with its single speed focus knob was a pain in the backside,,trying to focus slowly by hand on a moon image that wasnt good and shaking scope as I adjusted focus....this is a wee darlin to operate now,,happy chappy :-)

I have always used 91% isopropyl alcohol to clean up dirty contacts, switches, potentiometers it is low costs does not effect plastics, leaves no residue. We have a lot of gases and contaminants in the West Texas oilfield air. Most of the time I do not have have to dis-assemble the device just work the alcohol thru the opening of the device.

One of the things I need to start doing is keeping a journal of the focus travel measurement on the focal tube for combinations of camera and focal reduction/Barlow. This will allow me to get it close. Then I can tighten it up with a Bahtinov mask on. I try not to change things up too much, but if I do this would shorten the transition significantly.
