A new camera coming out. It's called a TinyMOS and does astrophotography and video, has built in star maps like Google Sky etc, and sends your images direct to internet. Could be interesting, or an expensive novelty: tinymos.com/Thoughts?

Yep, they will sell gazillions of them. Maybe not to Video Astronomers, but the general public might get a kick out on them, until they realise they will need a tracking telescope

Or they need to be a 'land rover owner and outdoor enthusiast' ... LOL! Yeah, I saw that on thier website. That means he's an Astrophotography expert because he probably photographed a nice sunset once on one of his LandRover expeditions

I initially thought they might have something interesting, but the more I read the more I see it as a small camera with a couple of smart phone apps. Unless the camera software is going to drive the mount I don't understand the purpose of having planetarium software on the camera.

Hi guys,I have contacted tinymos and had a reply back, waiting on word back on where we can help out. As ken says its a novelty piece of kit,and fun for folk to use, given the correct publicity and expectations of what it can do from reputable video astronomers it can show the wonders of space, and can be a starting point in getting into serious video astronomy...the basis of this forum is the advancement of video astronomy,,many like myself started with a converted webcam looking at the moon, six years later,im on here with you folk learning and teaching video capture for astronomy..davy

All wonderful new tech. Great to hear about. I read a thread over on CN where a guy posted his idea of a dream camera had inbuilt light pollution detection and from that had an inbuilt exp time and gain to compensate for a database of objects in diff altitude, and inbuilt stacking and auto-colorise. Or something like that. I thought yes indeed, that is most likely where this will all lead. Bring it on. It was a 'fun' thread to watch, especially for the subsequent posters some of whom also said 'bring it on', but also the others who said 'it can't be done' and interestingly 'shouldnt be done ... you're not a true astronomer unless you do it manually' kind of thing. Those what-if posts always brings all sides. LOL
But the post from one guy against the naysayers went something like 'So without bright sparks inventing and progressing we wouldn't have automatic transmissions, starter motors, etc ... do you REALLY want to go back to life before those?' ... you get the gist ... great thought provoking comments. And boy, just 4 years ago we never dreamed we'd have the ease of use and great results of an Infinity style camera in 2016! So will be interesting to see where TinyMOS goes. I'd like to see it on my StarAdventurer with a Canon EOS 55-250mm zoom on it! I already know the ASI224 works great with that combo but heck its hard work!
