Stage one of the master plan.. Get in carols good books, now this may seem a trivial point, but this was major stumbling block. the astroshed I had before was converted to an avairy, and now the birds have been done in by vermin and carol not fit to carry on keeping birds,Ive been dropping hints I could get another shed up.
Part of deal was that I get outside tap working again...job completed today put it staight into copper piping ,no reduced pressure..garden hose had a leak,,cut out and repaired,,and as luck would have it pressure washer working fine..carol happy as a pig in muck,,muchos brownie points for me,, Big garden clean up required and then old avairy will get tore down and cut up and taken to refuse site.. This will be a long drawn out thread im afraid.

The plan of action for the brigadoon observatory.roll off roof type. Shed size to be determined when ground is cleared,,tight for space due to carols greenhouse and back fence. It will be a metal shed design for security reasons, this will be bolted to a raised concrete base. Shed will have a wooden skeleton frame to keep it all square when roof is rolled off, inside will be insulated and lined with wood, vent fans mounted for summer will be fitted as well as a heater. Scope will be tripod mounted and hoping to incorporate eq3/2 goto head and use it as a multi video camera set up going to cctv dvr..hopefully shed will be big enough for a enclosed warm room, but if not I will set up a slave computer to run the kit. We shall see how true I can keep intial plan.

Good stuff davy. Come on Carol, be a sport Davy, I know you have plans on building a steel shed, but how about this company in UK. Thier roll-offs look pretty good. If you want a warm room you could enclose underneath where the roof rolls off to. www.taylorsgardenbuildings.co.uk/store/customer/product.php?productid=20355#mainpictureAs for how long this thread gets, that doesn't matter. I'm sure we'll all learn something as it goes along as well as enjoying your journey.

hi ken,i had seen that one on my internet travels,i was going to build from scratch but decided on the metal shed,,10/12 year guarantee,,last two wooden sheds only lasted three years each, garden very damp at the bit the observatory will go,so building it up base wise out of the damp section drainage pipes will go in around edges of base in a pea gravel bed to drain away as much water as possible. idea was to build a enclosed warm section inside the shed with a sky view via Perspex.

Ahhh, OK, yep makes sense. Wooden sheds don't like the damp. I will follow this thread with great interest . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

That's a good shed for an observatory. It has a very low pitch so it won't block much sky.

Davy, that looks ideal. You wouldn't have to worry too much about security since its in the garden (versus it being out in the middle of nowhere).
Looks to have room for a tiny heated nook in the corner.
