Daylight Savings Time ended today here in Australia . . WAH-HOOOOOO!! it gets dark an hour earlier
Always be aware of your Mounts settings when DST starts or ends as it could affect your GoTo's.
In years past I changed my DST setting to YES on the day that daylight savings started and my GoTo's where all over the place, except on the correct target.
It took me days of research to find out why this was happening.
Apparently, in my Hand Controller (I have the Skywatcher EQ6 old black model with the v2.05a hand controller) (the 'a' meant Australian/Southern Hemisphere version) the programmers set a DST date into the programming.
That date was correct back when they made the hand controller but in the years since, the date for DST has changed, and the new date doesn't correspond with their settings
I even tried to trick the hand controller by clicking on the Yes, but putting the time 1 hour out. But it was too smart for me and still didn't give accurate GoTo's
But as soon as I said No to DST, and used the normal time, it worked a treat . . . for 2 weeks
That's when it went haywire again.
Why? Because that was the date the Programmers put into it! and it switched over to DST time, and I had to NOW say Yes to DST
Then about 6 months later it happened again. Guess what I forgot
So, my post is just to let people be aware that DST settings may not necessarily be accurate in older hand controllers.
Skywatcher (Orion) v3 Hand controllers and onwards don't have this problem.
The 'a' Australian version was a total botch-up of a hand controller, not only in the DST settings, but also on Solar System objects.
GoTo doesn't work on the Planets or the Moon.
It's fun to select GoTo Saturn which is high in the sky and watch the scope slew down to look at my shoes or select the Moon in the high up in the west and watch the scope slew to my house back door in the south-east
