What the heck 3C ! Just finished a nights observing here (when my battery went flat). It was 28C at 1030pm. Apparently the warmest April day ever in Sydney - its supposed to be mid autumn. I've been struggling with my 224 for the past few nights - too many variables to control !! Getting some okay images. Might go back to the rev imager tomorrow for a comparison. I really like the live stacking in sharpcap. But there's something weird with my mount or polar alignment alignment or something as its drifting a lot. Have to sort that out. In case it helps Chris ... vid showing how this guy sets the contrast etc with the main windows histogram, then uses the stacking. Cheers Howie

Thanks. I've seen that, it really helped me get going. I'm running 2.8 (and 9 which supposedly has the polar align - haven't tried that yet) with a 224 camera. Its mainly the camera settings I'm getting used to. Got some god hints from Atrojedi's thread about the 224 on CN, and from Robin Sharpcap. Getting there - looks cloudy tonight so no chance of doing anything.
Think I've mutinied this thread, sorry Norm, might start another about it.

Chris, I'd love to follow your continued work with the 224... that's an intriguing camera to me.

Rick So I wired up like your hub. Excellent, thanks.
Anyone -back to Norm's question. Windows programs to control the mount. - I've been using skysafari plus on my android. Its great, but would like to control from my PC. Cause then I don't have to juggle my laptop (doing sharpcap) and phone (doing skysafari) and my glasses (which just get in the way of everything !!). Skysafari doesn't do PCs. - I've tried Stellarium - I like it, but it was a bit scary the other night. It tried to take a short cut by slewing beyond the horizon when going from an object low in the south-east to another low in the south-west. Was lucky I was sitting there with it otherwise it would have been messy. Am I doing something stoopid ? - I've had a go a Cartes du Ciel - but its just not as nice as sky safari or stellarium.
If that's it, then I'll learn or stick to skysafari and juggle my phone.
Cheers, Chris

I personally use eqmod and cdc, work well together, yip stellarium looks good visually and have used it a lot years ago but I found cdc better ,no bells and whistles just a good bit of free software

I'm wondering if that could have been the mount not the program... I think they program just sends a "Goto x.xxxx y.yyyy" command and the mount / controller figures out how to do that. I could be wrong tho...

I'm a bit late to this but I thought I'd add StellariumScope to the mix if you're going to use Stellarium. StellariumScope is an intermediary layer between Stellarium and the telescope. It accesses the scope through the ASCOM driver rather than a direct serial connection. It's main advantage is that it allows other programs to connect to the scope. If you connect Stellarium directly to the scope, no other program can access the scope.
I just recently set mine up with Astrotortilla, which gives my computer platesolving capability. You give it an image where your scope is pointing and it will figure out where it needs to go automatically. It will then move the scope so that it centers the object in the field of view. If you connect Stellarium directly, you can't use this app.
StellariumScope is the first thing I start. It is set up to automatically start Steallarium (and shut it down when I leave the program). I then connect to the scope through StellariumScope by checking the "connect" checkbox. In Telescope Control, Stellarium itself is set to connect through an external application rather than directly. You'll also get a virtual direction pad. The direction pad seemed a little buggy when I was using it though. North/South worked be East/West seemed to keep running on in that direction. Pushing the opposite direction seemed to stop it.
