m.cheapastrophotography.vpweb.co.uk/Id be looking at one with video capture eg canon 600d...reason being i have couple of standard 600d and focus ect is good through view finder and live view..I know video wont be as good as a dedicated av cam..I fancy a lodestar I know itsa great av cam,not really want to go that expensive, zwo has caught my eye as well.im just fed up with the qhi5lii fiasco, thats why a modded dslr might be my fav choice..need more info to choose

Wow, they are Cheap! And they are already Astro Modified. Bonus! But I don't know enough about DSLR's to comment. I have a Canon 350d that I can't use through my computer because Win7 won't recognise the 350d

Dave, I haven't done planetary yet with my DSLR's but I have used video to stack the moon (was my first ever use of cam with a scope!). I was trying out how it all works, and shot a 10 sec video of the moon and stacked etc as per the very good link below ... www.skyandtelescope.com/astronomy-resources/astrophotography-tips/planetary-imaging-with-your-dslr-camera/Just be warned most stacking software wants .avi files but Canon saves as .mov which has to be converted (you'll read that in the above link). I most certainly had hassles converting! I did some research after the hassles and found out that if you use BYEOS to run the Canon, then BYEOS can grab the live view feed and save it on the fly as .avi (tada!) ... so it loads straight into the stacking programs, no conversions necessary. And Ken ... so you don't have the orig cd which came with the Canon - EOS Utilities? I am pretty sure you can download the latest version of EOS Utilities from the Canon US or Canon-Asia website and it might work for your 350D. I know the latest version still works fine with my 450D. You might want to try it. Or BYEOS trial. cheers Howie

I am among the many thousands of people asking Canon to make the 350d work with Win7 and Canon's only reply is "No, we are sorry, we won't be writing any Drivers or Downloads for the Rebel XT compatible with Windows7'. I have also tried several of the hacks on the net and I found the same result as others, that they don't work. Even just to download images from my camera to my Win7 laptop I have to switch the camera menu from 'Computer Connection' to 'Print/PTP' so the computer thinks it's a storage device! And even then it doesn't always work That's how they make you buy the next model. By not supporting old models

I've downloaded and have been playing with my 450D on the new BackyardEOS and I really like it. I haven't yet installed it on my Win7 laptop and see if it works with the 450D. I can give that a go and report back. I've already paid the full license, so no worries there.

Yes Rick, the 450d works with Win7. Many people use it.

What I'm curious about, Ken, is if your camera would be supported by BackyardEOS on Win7 - versus a native operating system driver direct access. Has anyone given that a go?

How easy back yard to work,,and how is quaityof images, noise wise Davy, I think Rick may be using the latest version ? I last used it 3 years ago and found it as straight forward as nebulosity is straight forward Seriously, check the many youtube videos on its use. I didn't have any probs and I hate mucking abart with software! It certainly is used by lots of folk. Like I said, I only did the moon so cannot comment on noise. The image quality was fine for that but of course its very bright n such. cheers howie

Hi guys thanks for help. When I put camera usb cable in laptop t says something like adding driver..led on camera flashes ect,,went into sharpcap and it appears not to work..if I boot up laptop usb in already it works ok..when I crank up sharpcap I have image of said lamp post..anyhow its dark now and jupiter coming into view, get it lined up and just looks like a bright star on dslr, washed out disk on qhy, tried focus, still washed out, went into gain and lowered it to zero,no diff, messing around with it but no diff,I never set up tracking on mount,it eats batteries,so ditched jupiter and just captured where it was,I altered the exposure and was getting blue ,red and a greeny white colour dots, put lens cap on and they disappeared,so wasnt hot pixels cranked the exposure up in lx mode and got more stars, pulled the gain back to zero and lost a lot of them so on right track, just looked false colour to me,,maybe it is right,,I only ever image the moon so its new territory for me..I will try andget some images off comp..I did hit live stack but it said after first capture it ciuld not pick up more than 3 ref stars.

I got all excited for about 5 minutes I went to Backyard EOS and check which cameras are supported. I found my Canon 350d/Rebel XT in the list and then I read across the line . . . . 32 bit only I have 64 bit
