Ooh, I wonder if I could use the StarSense and a finder at the same time... as long as it is the same radius away from the center of the mirror/lens, it should work.

The StarSense does automatic alignment, but for me I need to run a polar alignment after it does its initial auto-align. A finder would help me when the StarSense is a bit off and the star to help polar align is not in my 20mm reticule eyepiece.

Wonder when Celestron will allow the starsense's image to be seen? Ideally if it broadcast out on wifi to iDevices that would be just great! But even a cable to your pc would be good. Then you truly wouldn't need a finder. Rick, I've only just gotten a 2nd hand StarSense as I am getting together a megaBob type AltAz for use at home. Picked it up yesterday and haven't used it yet. That's why I was puzzled at your comment re needing a finder with it. Silly ol me ... I'd believed the advertising blurb ... replaces your finder! Ha Ha! Anyhow, so far I have only studied the manual and created my own cheat sheet for first light (hopefully tonite except forecast is 50% cloudy and right now it must be 20 mph winds out there!) Anyway ... do these below not work? --------------------------- Enhancing pointing accuracy --------------------------- Method 1: HELP button ... slew to object and if not visible or centred do NOT attempt to use buttons to centre, just press HELP ... Scope will auto slew to nearby bright star and capture image to improve accuracy. When its done, slew again to the object, it should be centered. Method 2: Add up to 7 more alignment ref points (additional to the 3 it AUTO takes to align) ... ALIGN > scroll Up/DOWN until Add Align Ref > ENTER Move scope several degrees away from its last alignment point finishing with Up and RIGHT then press ENTER to get it to acquire image Method 3: SYNC ... Cam is not used for this ... it is exactly like old sync and adjusts model via coords. Slew to named star, make sure you know which dir to find it if its not in FOV. If you do move around trying to find it then be sure to GoTo star again, and then do the same movements when asked to centre it in the procedure below ... press OPTION (Celestron button) and ALIGN at same time, coarse centre then ENTER, fine centre then ALIGN Method 4: IDENTIFY button: displays name and offset distances to nearby objects of interest the mag of which is able to be set by filters in the MENU. Stars come up first so Up/DOWN and note the mag of each then pick bright one nearby to go sync to or Add Calib pos to make finding objects to image or find more accurately

Howie,
Don't judge the StarSense based upon my experiences. I have a lot of very large trees on my property which block significant sections of the sky -- particularly the east. This makes it difficult for the StarSense to have a good align. There are plenty of people who do not need the finder. But with my tree issues, I have to go to extra lengths.

That's a handy bit of kit, in the past I've super glued my red dot finder to my finder scope bracket arm.

Fek in hell, thats expensive ken. Almost the same price as over there davy. Our Aussie Dollar is twice the British Pound. You said £36 over there. Double that you get $72. So our $79 is close and NO international postage.
