Anyone use this to good effect? I have tried a few times to see what its all about. I managed to stack 1 video... the end result wasnt good though haha. I think i need to some how remove all the dodgy frames before stacking. No idea how though Most of the time it just crashes on me. Anyone got a link to a good walkthrough or something? I tried watching a couple of youtube videos on it but it just confused me more.

Hi Chris have used Registax in the past sometimes a good result most not much improvement. Most of the time I use Deep Sky Stacker (DSS) which I find pulls out more detail. You need to use VOB frame extractor first to convert the video to single frames in a file then copy them to DSS and let it do its thing. It takes longer to do, then do some tweeking in Photoshop or Ulead. I still find processing a dark art

I did try DSS... instantly crashed haha. Im seeing a pattern here... this netbook thing is turning into more hassle than its worth. Clearly not up to the job!

I was a happy Registax user for stacking DSO's. Registax 2 that is. I tried v3, v4 and v5 when they came out, and have tried them again since, but they just don't do as good a job as the old v2 on DSO's. They may be good for stacking Video. I know they are excellent for Avi's. But I used Registax 2 for stacking my DSO images and they gave a better result than the $900 ImagesPlus Image Processing software. Some people queried my comment, so while I had them as a captured audience at Astro camp I showed them and they were totally amazed! I have heard some people have had trouble getting large frames into Registax for DSO stacking, but I happily shoved full frame DSLR images in it all the time. Up to 9 frames at a time. But as for stacking Video, Chris, there is a quality level setting so you can reject any frames that are not up to a chosen percentage by you. For example, you can scroll through your video using the slider at the bottom, and as you go along pick a really good frame. Then set the settings to reject any frames that are less than about 80% quality of the frame you just chose. Then it will only stack frames of 80% and above the quality of that one frame.
