glad to see you back shevill, a "few" years ago i watched a sci-fi space movie silent running, starring bruce dern. it had a big influence on me, it concerned an astronaut in charge of a hydroponics eco-dome on a spacecraft. by any chance were you an advisor on this movie.the soundtrack music was inspiring. john.

Well done Shevill. It looks great. You have done a terrific job. It must feel good getting out there and doing your project after going through your Knee Op. Makes my piddly little Vegie garden look small I am also building a greenhouse at the moment but mine is about 1/20th the size of yours. It is only 3m x 2m and will house some Herbs and seedlings:

Hi Folks,
Many thanks for the kind comments & good wishes. Also had three hernia ops this year to contend with, which slowed me down a tad. Fully recovered from that but suspect it is where I got this respiratory bug which has troubled me for months, despite appropriate medical care. Seems to be improving with the warmer weather. Hydroponics is a subject I have dabbled with since my med school lab days many, many years ago long before ready made mixes and all these lovely plastic containers. The new poly-house will grow all the summer salad items, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, zucchini, peppers, squash, strawberries, garlic, carrots, onions, and many other items. A duplicate of all these are already planted and growing in my various veggie plots. With fresh eggs from our free range Brahma chooks {Cold weather birds from India have feathers down their legs and on their feet}. various between 20-30 birds depending on what we keep from our breeding program, we eat as much home grown fresh food as we can. I must take a night shot with the red/blue LED grow lights on, the whole poly-house glows purple, I suspect because the plastic is covered with a fine white shade cloth, making it opaque. We have gone from days of 32 degrees down to 12-degrees with morning frost and a dusting of snow on the mountain overlooking Hobart.
Kind Regards All, Shevill.Interesting to see the difference between a RAW and JPG image taken at the same time.

My poly-house is a grand recycling project if one includes re-use of the polystyrene boxes.

Hi Shevill, nice cockerel you have there, we have 3 hens, no male bird as it would soon attract complaints about the noise. Veggie patch has given way to my obsy and fruit trees/bushes. The rest of the garden belongs to the local wildlife, a Common/Smooth newt colony in a 1.5x2.5 metre pond, approx 40-50 breeding adults which supports 140-160 in a area of one square kilometre. Frog population was 85 or so at spawning time, now reduced as ranavirus has now hit them hard. Dragonflies and Damselflies, and all sorts of beetle are also in the pond. We have an occasional visit from the local hedgehog, who looks in good health. Nice to hear from you.
