Felt like a dumb question, i just wondered if i could 'protect the $80 filter with th 20... but shouldnt be that rough with gear anyway.

What might sound dumb is that it's probably better to protect the cheap yellow filter with the expansive IR filter LOL! The yellow is easy to scratch. The IR filter is toughened. You can throw it in with the dishes when you do the washing up and it won't hurt it

Hi Ken - Viewed all your videos on the Revolution camera. I use to own a Stellacam II, about 10 years ago, but no longer use it - - - - to many hot pixels.
The Revolution has been out for several months now. Have they upgraded it in any way? Different camera chip, or better monitor?
Have you tried a Deep Sky Barred spiral Galaxy? Any info would be appreciated. Mike Lanska

Mike, the newest version of the Revolution Imager is the 11811, but they are all sold out. Hopefully another camera will be out soon using the same sensor. The 11811 sensor is a ripper.
If I hear anything about anyone bringing out another 11811 camera I will post it in this forum.
I haven't screen grabbed any Barred spiral galaxies that I have seen but the ones I viewed looked great. I have screen grabbed other galaxies though.

Ken -
Appreciate the info on the Revolution. Now, is the 11811 a different version of the original?
I don't have $1000 to spend on a video camera, but this Revolution is in my price range, and
from what little I've read - - - its probably equal to, or better than my old Stellacam.
Thanks

Yes Mike, the original Revolution had a different sensor, but Mike from OC Telescope found out he could get a better sensor fitted inside them so he ordered them. But because the LN-300 cameras aren't made any more (LN-300 is the base camera for the Revolution, Micro etc) they have finally run out except for the few still in the shops that stocked them, and Mike was the only person supplying the 11811 model.
Someone may make a replacement camera because there would be heaps the the 811 sensors left as it is a fairly new sensor. Hopefully someone will put it into another cheap camera case. I keep watching for the sensor to appear inside another brand of camera.

All good Beau.
Don't worry if it is the older 763 sensor. Even it is an excellent sensor. As you can tell in my first Live Test Video: (What makes the views in this video look fainter is that I didn't use any AGC at all. Once you raise AGC it looks far better)

Hi ken, grabbed the 120x600 today. No goto mount, have to wait a bit. just tried to shoot the moon, its just a white blob. I checked the rev im site but it seem to be talking a different languange to me... I'll try in daylight tomorrow and see if i can get a clear view on monitor... can you point to a post with menu 1 settings for a bright moon? I cant find exposure time, but tired and been a big week, started with bad news but got a scope and cam now, so its gunna end well, even if only looking at the moon.
Cheers, I'll be online tomorrow night for a few hours if i cant sort it myself during daylight.

Some refractors require a focal tube extension to achieve focus.

Thanks davy. I found moon settings on revs website, but their navigate menu How To has expained the features well. I should be good to have another crack tomorrow night...
...If i dont need the extender you mentioned above. I'll do a quick websearch before i fall asleep on the keyboard. cheers beau

Beau, if you are looking at something bright like the Moon make sure your exposures are very short. In the 'EXPOSURE' settings go to 'LENS'. Set the exposure down to about 1/500th of a second. Then adjust exposure up or down as you need it to see the Moon at the right brightness. Davy is correct about the focus. You may need an extender. When I need one I unscrew the lens off the end of a 2 inch barlow and used the Barlow barrel as the extender

Thanks ken, I'll give that a go. Did you see they released the new rev im 2, like yesterday.... Yes Beau, I have one of the new versions coming soon, hopefully in about 10 days. It has the same sensor as original Revolution Imager v2. The reason it is a new camera is because they stopped making LN-300 cameras so Mike ordered these cameras and asked for the 11811 sensor in them. So in reality, it is the original v2 in a different case. And the Menu is different.

Not the carry case the whole kit comes in

I wouldn't worry Beau. I like the look of the old case. And if its the same sensor, no biggie.

i managed to mess around today and think my prob is i need to get a touch Deeper into scope. I wound the focuser off a bit, letting it retract in more, and even better vision (terrestrial test). Can get good focus on foreground objects by winding out focus, just don't have the in travel to get a crisp mountain in distance.
I think ken had a link above that will sort me out, i will check in a minute. Colour is day mode only, I'll will have to try and tweak the settings, I've got colour its just a bit pale, washed out... have to play with that after i gget good focus.
Thanks guys, oh, for day use to get any picture at all i had to go max 1/10000 shortest exposure i think, still playing with settings. Need to get crisp focus then worry about colour and exposure

A contrast filter helps the image I found on my qhy5 and im sure it will be the same with other cameras.
