ok i thought by puttin the nichrome wire around the removeable shield on the orion 80. would countrol the dew. grrrrrrrrrrr nope.... iam wondering would puttin the wire around the lens cell itself. be the better idea? warming the glass ?
ideas .. pros cons? i like the idea of the nichrome wire as i just plug it for a few and then unplug.. dew control boxes are tons of money for what you get..

Yes Paul, it took me a while to learn where to put my Nichrome dew heaters. It needs to go around the lens cell or even just behind it. Warming in front of the lens does almost nothing. Here you can see where I put mine right behind the lens cell on both scopes and they work far better: I usually do have a strap directly on the lens cell too but I don't have a photo of it done that way. But, remember that no matter how good your heater straps are, some nights are just too cold for them! Here's a pic of my 120mm Achro (same scope as in pic above) on a VERRRRRY cold night with Heater straps ON
