Ultra Low Light HD Astro cameras are getting closer. Ikegami have released a new ULTRA low light HD camera that is looking promising. It sees in extreme dark even at 30FPS! Watch the video through then read the specs: That was operating at 30FPS. Imagine what it could see when using the Hyper mode that goes up to x64 (1.1 seconds NTSC, 1.3 seconds PAL) Cost is currently US$9995 and uses Composite cable. Noise could be a factor at x64, so would probably need cooling, and Computer control would be nice too. But it's a possibility for the near future maybe. Specs here: www.ikegami.co.jp/en/products/security/hd/detail.html?product_id=121

That looks pretty good and the specs look good too. I just wish sometimes that these folks would just take the camera out to a really dark sight and test it on the ground instead of flying it around. A rock steady shot of a dark clear sky would really show what it can or can't do.

Allan, I did email them yesterday and asked if anyone in their company has bothered testing this camera on the sky for Astronomy use. Will be interesting to see what they say back. Might make them race out and try it

I have heard back from them. They asked what lens we would use because they need to know if it would be compatible with their camera. I emailed back telling them that we use a 'C mount' to 1.25" adaptor so any C mount camera can fit into any telescope. and that they need to test it for us using a telescope, not a lens. Because they probably won't have any telescopes or C mount adaptors, hopefully they might send one for me to try But I won't hold my breath

yes, I was thinking it might be worth getting one to try out, but then I saw on one site that it was $15000. I changed my mind.
